Service Pin Program

New York State Magistrates Association Service Pin Recognition Program

Eligibility

An applicant must currently be a member of the New York State Magistrates Association.

The member must be a currently sitting Town or Village Justice who has completed 20 or more years of service as a Town or Village Justice – not necessarily continuous service.  To reiterate, this program is not available to retired judges!

Applications

Eligible justices must apply for their first pin.  Application forms will appear in the summer issue of The Magistrate.  As an alternative, eligible justices may send a signed and dated letter to our Association office.  Such letter should include the member’s name, home mailing address, county and the name of the town and/or village he or she presides in.  Also required is the date he or she first presided (not date of appointment or election).

Previous recipients are on record and need not re-apply.  They will automatically be awarded the next incremental pin as long as they are still sitting and still a member of the New York State Magistrates Association.

Applications received will be held until the Annual Conference.  Recipients in attendance will be introduced and personally awarded their pins.  Pins for any recipients unable to attend the Conference will be mailed shortly thereafter.

Five Year Increments

The pins are issued in five year increments (20, 25, 30, etc.).  For example, if a Judge applies with 22 years of service, he or she will receive a 20 year pin in September and a 25 year pin 3 years later if they still are sitting and a current New York State Magistrates Association member.
